Community
Over the holiday’s I have been bombarded with images of Christian community. From sermons to conversations and finally a great example of Christians living in community together. I had the privilege of visiting some great friends to me and to Adeline Christian Camp over New Years weekend. These friends are a part of a local church that emphasizes community. The church has two “community houses” (one guys and one girls) where between five and eight twenty somethings live life together.
The morning after New Years the girls house was very kind in cooking everyone breakfast. I wasn’t very sociable at this time, (probably due to the fact that I’m not a morning person) but I was able to sit back an observe a beautiful picture of what I think Christ intended for His Church. There wasn’t any “God” conversations but I could see the genuine interest and transparency in each person as these friends conversed together. No one was fake, they were real with each other. It was beautiful to witness.
As I have thought about this, I believe this is what Christ meant for His Church. Sharing everything with one another; joys, concerns, sins, possessions, food, etc. I also thought about our “Church” today. Are we really living in community as Christ intended? Do we genuinely care for one another? Would we give our brothers and sisters the clothes off our backs? Would we reveal our deepest and darkest secrets to one another?
Lets seriously consider how we have been being the Church Jesus intended. Please reply and let’s get the conversation going about real, authentic community.
Love Never Fails,
Chad Toelke
Executive Director of Adeline Christian Camp.
